I was given this story to depict in our church Christmas tree festival 2008 I think it is a delightful heartwarming story to which everyone can relate irrespective of religious affiliation.

Tolstoy was certainly a very gifted writer. I’m impressed that you managed to read the entire War and Peace though - I couldn’t, even though I had to write an essay about it for my school project. I read only the essential parts from the book just enough to complete my project and get an “A” for it It was just too long for me… but then I was only 16. Perhaps one day, when I get more time, I’ll read all four volumes of this masterpiece.

How did you celebrate Christmas in Japan? Are there any holidays around Christmas time in Japan?

Russian authors like Tolstoy Dostoevsky and Gogol really have something magical in their writing. War and Peace, although a little long, is a masterpiece–at once a wonderful historical novel, and yet filled with hundreds of brilliantly written characters.
