Isn't it amazing, Ina - I had exactly the same feeling - that story was written almost a century ago, but it feels as it was written today - the same values that were unappreciated back then are underestimated today as well.
"Wasn’t that shoemaker in a constant state of Prayer and Meditation?" - yes, that's exactly how we must've felt. Thanks for reading and enjoying my lit bits, Ina. You inspired me to keep going with this series and keep sharing with you all those gems of literature.

Vivien,
This was a very moving story!!! THANK YOU!!!!

I loved it! Have loved all the other stories you have posted in "Bit of Literature".
I find it moving and amazing every time I read a Classic and find out how things haven't changed a bit in the core...How fascinating! We are always the same, simply Humans...

This story poses a question about integrity, passion, meaning of one's life...I admire the courage and the love of the shoe maker...isn't this what makes us happiest? Doing what we love best.

I hope and pray that one day society will value that in all levels. That we will value it in all people and not think of them as "fools" when they do things we wouldn't do and for less material reward that is meaningful to us...We are all Creators and what better thing then allow and encourage each other to do exactly that “Create” for the satisfaction of the act of creation itself…and of course reward each other accordingly!

Work is worship in whatever form it comes as long as it benefits mankind. Wasn’t that shoemaker in a constant state of Prayer and Meditation?

May I and everyone have the courage, patience, love, passion, vision to find and do what makes us happiest and do it till the last breath….

Thank you again! Truly Inspirational!!!
