As you all know, earlier I have announced that there will be only non-monetary prizes for the Reader Appreciation week, and I was really happy to see that it didn’t spoil the great spirit of this community’s readers. However I’ve received a generous proposal that Godfather would’ve called an “offer you can’t refuse” - Reader Appreciation Project is willing to sponsor one of my prizes for up to $50 USD.

Finally, after so many months of fruitless searches for a Wordpress plugin that does absolutely nothing and what’s more important doesn’t require us, bloggers, to do anything, it has been released today. Here are some of the best features of this plugin:

What is the origin of April Fool’s Day? Even though there are many theories, this one stands out: it started in the XVI century when the old Julian calendar was replaced by Gregorian calendar. Under Julian calendar the New Year was celebrated on April 1, but it’s been shifted to January 1 under the Gregorian calendar. Those who didn’t like the change or did not hear about it continued exchanging gifts on April 1st, others started amusing themselves by sending mock presents.

Well, it’s been over three months since I’ve started this blog. Even though I launched it in December I didn’t really have much visitors nor comments back then, and no subscribers. I just checked my Feedburner stats today, and downloaded the detailed report in Excel format. I got my first RSS subscriber on January 8, 2007, and on March 27 it reached 71, but then dropped down to the current state (boohoo).

I never thought I’ll be getting this much traffic to my blog from search engines (mainly from Google). I can’t call myself a SEO guru, although I do know the essentials of optimizing a website for Search Engines (mostly by working with titles, meta tags, clean code, good content and efficient use of keywords in the text).
However, I’m not concentrating too much on picking great keywords when writing articles for this blog or devising the headlines. I’m writing for humans who read my blog, not for bots.

I know, I should come up with better headlines for these type of posts, something more creative. Perhaps I should announce a contest for the most imaginative headlines for my contest-related posts, what do you think?
Anyhow, the First Contest with Inspiration Bit is over and there is one lucky winner who’ll be interviewed by me next month. As promised I will announce the winner on April 9th, so please don’t ask me to spill the beans ahead of time.
Now, it’s time for the Second Round:

The Feed count numbers - should I show or not to show them on my blog? Originally, I didn’t think about it much and simply displayed my Feedburner stats within a week or two of launching this blog. I personally liked seeing feed numbers on other blogs, and if they didn’t have them I was wondering - why not. I also find it easier to subscribe to the blog that has the number displayed because I don’t have to search where the heck is that RSS subscription link on this blog.

You would think that we ought to learn from our mistakes. Well I don’t know about you but there are a few mistakes that I keep making in my life. Like taking my daughter to the children playground where she runs to the room filled with balls, and later I’m having a very hard time getting her out. I tell myself that I won’t make the same mistake again and bring her there, but whenever she exclaims “balls, balls” and pulls my hand, I can’t resist and take her again to that balls room.
With blogging though I was careful enough to learn from others mistakes and study as much as possible about blogging before launching my own blog. But still, there are a few mistakes (fortunately, not many) that I made, though I’ve learned from most of them and won’t repeat the same mistake in the future. However this particular mistake I still tend to make, even though I’m constantly improving on it and lessening its effect.
